A DECISION not to allow a former Newton Abbot church to be converted into flats has 'disappointed' the town council.

The application to remodel St Leonard's, Wolborough Street, had been made by Lloyd Howle Negatex Ltd but permission was refused by officers at Teignbridge Council.

They argued not enough time had been given in which to consider suitable alternatives.

On Tuesday members of the town council's planning committee voiced their unhappiness with the decision.

'I thought as far as it went it was fairly sympathetic,' said Cllr Daphne Watts.
