TWO doctors are setting off tomorrow morning on a nine-hour sponsored cycle ride.

Tim Warne, from Bovey Tracey, and Chris Weekes, from Chudleigh, are taking on the cycle challenge for BASICS Devon – the British Association of Immediate Care. The charity provides a network of emergency volunteer doctors giving immediate access to specialist medical care for severely ill patients across Devon.

Chris and Tim hope to raise funds to put towards a £9,500 target which will help purchase a vital piece of medical kit – an end tidal carbon dioxide monitor. These devices read patients’ breathing and oxygen levels and can be used at an emergency incident for very sick and injured patients.

The intrepid medics are aiming to cycle 95 miles before nightfall along the Dartmoor Way. They’ll start at Bovey Tracey and then pedal on through Okehampton, Tavistock, Ivybridge, Buckfastleigh and Ashburton, finally returning to Bovey by dusk.
