A DOG was rescued and treated with a pet oxygen therapy mask after a dishwasher caught fire at a Bovey Tracey home this afternoon, Monday.

Fire Control received multiple calls to smoke coming from the rear of a property in De Tracey Park, Bovey Tracey shortly before 1pm.

One fire engine from Bovey Tracey, one from Ashburton and one from Torquay stations were sent immediately.

A spokesperson for Fire control said: '.On arrival crews confirmed a fire in the ground floor of the property involving a dishwasher in the kitchen area. 

'Crews isolated the electrics and set to work with two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

'One dog was rescued from the property and treated by crews using a  pet oxygen therapy mask.

'The fire was quickly extinguished and the cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.

'Crews have left the scene in the hands of the occupier.'
