AS the lockdown continues, Bovey Tracey’s Coronavirus Action Group (CAG) is still proving its worth and finding new initiatives.
From this week, generous residents can buy a meal for parishioners in the moorland town who are going hungry.
Despite appearances, Bovey Tracey has a lot of hidden poverty, so to combat this the CAG has launched its Donate a Dinner scheme where people can give a sum of money – £5 is suggested – to provide a meal for someone in need.
Coordinator Nicola Huckerby said: ‘At first glance Bovey Tracey would appear to be a prosperous place. However, it harbours a lot of poverty – even some of the larger houses have people on low or no income.’
‘This is why we are asking for your help to donate the cost of a dinner for the vulnerable elderly residents in our communities. Every single penny will go to providing meals.’
The Donate Your Dinner scheme is run by Stella West-Harling from the Dartmoor Community Kitchen Hub in Fore Street, Bovey Tracey. To find out more, or to donate a sum of money go to https://communitykitchenhub.org.uk/donate-your-dinner
