A farm shop and bistro located on a historic estate are celebrating after winning two Gold Taste of the West Awards.
Powderham Farm Shop and the Powderham Bistro were both awarded Gold for a second year in a row.
The Taste of the West Awards celebrate the best food and drink producers, cafes, shops and specialist retailers in the westcountry. The awards are judged by independent industry experts who conduct ‘mystery shops’ of establishments.
Judges described Powderham Farm Shop as ‘an absolute treasure trove of local produce’ and praised the ‘happy staff’.
In feedback about the Powderham Bistro, judges said ‘everything was to an excellent standard and the whole experience was relaxing and enjoyable’. Particular praise was reserved for the Bistro’s burger which was cited as being ‘one of the best my companion has ever tasted’.
Caro and Chris Wright, who have been running Powerham Farm Shop and Bistro since August 2023 were delighted with the Gold Awards. ‘We have a wonderful, committed team working here who are thrilled to have their hard work recognised by these awards,' Carol commented.
Chris and Carol also run Otterton Mill in East Devon. The historic working mill includes an art gallery, craft shop, a farm shop, which also recently won a Gold Taste of the West Award, and café/restaurant.
Running both the Powderham and Otterton Farm Shops enables the two establishments to support each other; Powderham Farm Shop sells artisan bakery products made from flour milled at Otterton, while Otterton Mill Farm Shop sells venison from Powderham.
Visitors to Powderham Farm Shop will have the the chance try many of the products on offer in December at a Taster Weekend on Saturday December 13 and Sunday December 13 where free samples from local food and drink suppliers will be available to try.
