RUSH-HOUR traffic was held up this morning with two motor mishaps affecting the South Devon Highway flyover at Penn Inn outside Newton Abbot.

A motorist escaped with slight injuries when his Torquay-bound Ford Fiesta collided with the central reservation on the approach to the flyover just after 7am.

He was checked over by paramedics at the scene.

Some 20 minutes later the congestion returned when a car broke down on the flyover, which police deemed ‘a dangerous position.’ Traffic was reported to be running normally by 8.30am.

* At about the same time a car collided with the central reservation on the A38 at Chudleigh. The driver was not hurt.
