A DRIVER was trapped in his vehicle after an accident on the Exeter-bound carriageway of the A38 near Chudleigh Knighton early today.

Fire crews from Bovey Tracey, Ashburton and Newton Abbot attended the single vehicle incident and used hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools to release the man who was from Exeter. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with a back injury.

The road was closed at 3.20am for recovery work and reopened just after 4am.
