DON’T be surprised if you come across a duo trudging away on treadmills on Newton Abbot Quay in the early hours of this Saturday morning - it’s all for a very good cause.
Sherrie Vine, together with her father-in-law, Ray Vine, will be attempting a static 50 mile walk starting at midnight on Friday, with the aim of raising money for the Stanley Beau Foundation which is supporting Tay-Sachs disease Tay–Sachs disease.
Said Sherrie: ‘My good friend Emma Murphy’s son, Stanley Beau, sadly passed away last summer from the disease - hence Steps for Stanley.
’The disease is particularly debilitating and needs so much special equipment which is what we’re hoping monies raised from our steps will go to support others.’
Tay–Sachs disease is a genetic disorder that results in the destruction of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Continued Sherrie: ‘With our Steps for Stanley event we should be covering 100,000 steps. With a very early midnight start time on Friday night/Saturday morning we’re hoping to compete the steps by late afternoon.
‘We’ll certainly keep going until we’ve competed.
There will be ample collection tins at the Quay on Saturday and if you do pop along any spare change will be going to a good cause.
