IN the early hours of Wednesday morning, a distressed 22-year-old woman had to be rescued from the sea in Teignmouth.
After reportedly having seen the police regarding a domestic incident the previous evening, she had another row with her boyfriend and ran off. He then contacted the police.
At 5.30am, two policewoman, WPc Deborah Richards, who joined the force last August and is based in Teignmouth, and WPc Mary Simpson, based in Newton Abbot, were called to the beach front, by the pier, to rescue the woman who had waded into the water.
The policewomen entered the sea, deployed a lifeline and engaged in conversation with the troubled woman, trying to coax her back onto the beach.
She was recovered and taken by ambulance to nearby Teignmouth Hospital where she was treated for exposure.
