FIRE safety has been the hot topic for pupils at St Michael’s C of E Primary School, Kingsteignton.

On Monday, October 31, children in Years 2 and 5 were visited by Kath Williamson, of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. Her time was spent encouraging the youngsters to think about what to do should they ever find themselves in a real life emergency.

Teacher Sophie Browse said: ‘Kath’s fire safety talk included tips on how to plan a safe escape route, the importance of smoke alarms and how to adopt a stop, drop and roll method if clothing catches fire.

‘The children also learned about the role of the fire station and, given the dramatic events in Exeter during the past week, the visit could not have come at a more appropriate time.

‘We’re very grateful to Kath for coming and even more so to the service as a whole who do so much to keep us all safe.’
