AS many as 100 students turned up for the first day of studies away from their new £10 million college in Newton Abbot on Monday – and they will not be at lectures there till next year.

The area’s long-awaited South Devon University Technical College formally launched its autumn term at another venue a mile distant from the spanking new green landmark in Kingsteignton Road.

The Year 10 and sixth form intake will not be moving into the ‘progressive and innovative’ building for another four months as they wait for finishing touches to be completed.

But they were on hand on Friday at their temporary accommodation in Forde House, home of Teignbridge Council, where they will be based for the autumn term which finishes in December.
