The years five and six pupils at Marldon primary have been studying the Central and Southern American civilisation whose peak came in the sixth century AD and was characterised by a legacy of impressive stone plazas, palaces, temples and pyramids.
Ashburton-based Clive, who has performed across the world and at several prestigious venues including 10 Downing Street – explored a number of myths with the youngsters and took each class for a workshop, encouraging them to bring the stories to life.
‘The children really enjoyed the experience and were able to use the skills learnt when writing their own Mayan myths,’ said teacher Becky Drewett.
‘The subject is a fascinating one, anyway, but having someone like Clive to really trigger their imaginations makes it even more amazing.’
