IT may have been the last day of school for a while in these extraordinary times, but pupils and staff at Newton Abbot’s Canada Hill Primary School certainly made sure that they went out with a smile and a song that they could share with everyone in hearing distance.

The youngsters, along with teachers and support staff, took to the playground for an outdoor sing-out to be heard all over Ogwell last Friday.

Said headteacher Delphine Knott: ‘ We all wanted to do something to keep spirits lifted, and a sing- out to all our friends and neighbours in the area seemed the best thing to do.’

Lead and conducted by deputy headteacher Mrs Ineke Henderson-Leer four happy songs filled the air as the young (and not so young) vocalists gave it their all.

Each pupil was also given a sunflower seed and pot to plant up in the enforced weeks off which came with the following instructions:

‘We wanted too give you a bit of sun

That you can share with everyone.

So plant this seed and watch it grow

and put to on Twitter so we’ll all know,

who has grown the tallest bloom.

So “Ta, Ta’ for now – we’ll see you back soon!
