Schools across Teignbridge have closed due to the Beast from the East 2.0 for today, Monday March 19.

With several inches of snow on the ground, and more snow showers forecast, many schools announced their decision yesterday to close today. Any remaining others quickly followed suit this morning.

Teign School; Newton Abbot College; Coombeshead Academy; South Dartmoor Community College; and Teignmouth and Dawlish Community Colleges are all staying closed today.

It’s believed all the Teignbridge primary schools are also closed, and most of the schools across the entire Devon county.

Blackpool Church of England Primary; Buckfastleigh Primary School; Haytor View Community Primary School; Kingskerswell Church of England Primary School; Moretonhampstead Primary School; and Wolborough Church of England Primary School have all announced they will be shut due to ‘adverse weather conditions’

With severe weather warnings still in place, and more snow on its way, most schools made the decision to close to avoid pupils and parents making dangerous journeys.

South Dartmoor Community College said: ‘We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause but the rural location of many of our children and staff means they are unable to safely travel.’

However, it won’t all be about building snowmen and playing in the snow today as most secondary pupils, particularly those studying for GCSEs and A levels, have been sent homework from their teachers via the internet.

Schools are hoping to reopen tomorrow.
