A Kingsteignton reader (name and address supplied), writes:
In the last few months the Country Bus 79 service between Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton (twice per hour) has been withdrawn. The other bus service – the Stagecoach No 2 – has been reduced in frequency from three per hour to two per hour. The result of this withdrawal of services has led to considerable inconvenience to local residents, particularly the elderly, who rely on a convenient and regular bus service.
This has also resulted in the remaining No 2 buses between Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton being regularly overcrowded. This, again, is a particular problem with elderly passengers who have difficulty standing on a moving bus and are unable to get upstairs, likewise for mothers with pushchairs, shoppers with trollies and the disabled.
Residents have become extremely frustrated with the problems caused by the withdrawal of bus services and are hoping that some return of services may be possible.
Cllr David Rollason has agreed to take up the matter with the county council and bus operators to see if some improvement of services can be made.
Regular travellers who have found this a problem are urged to contact Cllr Rollason by email and express their experience and their views.
It is hoped that if sufficient demand is shown some improvement can be made.
Cllr Rollason can be contacted at [email protected].
