ASHBURTON’S new carnival queen is 14-year-old Emily-Rose Adams.
She was chosen to represent the town at its own carnival and visit other carnivals across south Devon and attend events in the town throughout her year in office.
She will be joined by princess Milly Heselton, nine, and attendants Daisy Lewis, 14, and Leah Everson, 12.
The foursome were chosen at an event held at the town hall and congratulated by mayor Cllr John Nutley, Ashburton bailiff Jenny Giles and portreeve Tony Laity.
Emily-Rose’s first job as queen was to present cheques to two organisations from the proceeds of last year’s carnival.
Cash was divided between three groups overall.
Ashburton Swimming Pool and the Bank Youth Trust received £500 each and £100 went to the Barn Owl Trust.
This was decided by a public vote held via a ballot box in Ashburton post office.
Carnival organisers thanked everyone who voted.
Ashburton carnival is believed to be one of the oldest running in Devon.
