IT appears the final nail in the coffin has been driven into the Toby Jug Inn, Bickington.
The owner, Heavitree Brewery PLC has applied to Teignbridge Council for the change of use and conversion of the public house and barn to provide four dwellings.
The pub, once famous for its huge collection of toby jugs, called time around 12 years ago and villagers made valiant efforts to get it reopened.
Residents formed the Save the Toby Jug Action Group, chaired by Cllr Jeremy Christophers, who is now leader of Teignbridge Council.
In May 2006, another private company came in hoping to reopen it as a business and centre for community activities.
