AN entrepreneurial Kingsteignton schoolgirl has made £30 for charity by selling lots of homemade loom bands and pom-poms for 20p.
Nine-year-old Darcy Woodall sold the items to friends at St Michael’s School.
Dad Darren Woodall said: ‘Completely under her own steam Darcy decided to raise money for an autism charity.
‘She made the loom bands and pom-poms and also designed and put up posters around the school telling people what she was doing.
‘She raised about £30 and also drew attention to being aware of differences in society and how we all need to help each other.
‘I don’t know how she came up with the idea but she’s aware of children with autism at school and had been learning about diversity and equality. The school had been looking at recognising the world around them and trying to change it for the better.
‘It was also a bit of an entrepreneurial thing. She was so committed to it, and sat up late at night making loom bands to sell. She devised the whole fundraising agenda without any influence or help from any adults. I’m so very, very proud of her.’
Darcy also spotted a chance to increase her funds when her dad popped out to his local pub, The Kings Arms.
He added: ‘I was popping out for a pint and she decided to come along with me. She stood up in the pub and told everyone what she was doing, speaking with so much confidence and not batting an eyelid. Everyone was wearing a loom band when she left!’
