HAVING been absent from the calendar for the past two years, Christow and District Show is set to return this year and organisers have put together a a fun, varied and entertaining programme to welcome back visitors and make it a day to remember.

Now in its 91st year, the show, which will take place on Saturday, August 20, promises to delight attendees with its wide variety of attractions: with everything from Sheaf Pitching and Carriage Driving to Tractor Parades and the ever popular Terrier Racing.

Show Secretary, Peter Farnsworth, said: ‘This is a hugely important event for the Teign Valley.

‘The show draws in a wide audience from local residents and visitors alike.

‘Within just days the show fields and the community hall are transformed into a pastoral scene of pageantry and colour, with visitors on the day taking full advantage of the opportunity to meet, greet and chat with one another again.

‘It is a vital and iconic part of village life.’

The show opens at 09.00am with Horse Classes followed by the Cross Country at 10.00.

The Main Hall Horticultural exhibits open to the public at 1pm – the show closes with the customary and entertaining auction of produce in the Main Hall at 5pm.

In addition to the traditional horse and pony events, cross country race and children’s sports, one of the main attractions is undoubtedly the judged flower, horticultural, craft, cooker, beverage and photography competitions.

Jan Deane, horticultural secretary for the show, said: ‘At the last show in 2019 we broke all previous records.

‘In total we received a staggering 657 entries and this year we hope to top that!’

The Christow and District Show, which this year is raising funds for the Exeter branch of The Royal Osteoporosis Society, will also feature an art exhibition.

The exhibition, which is to be held in the Community Hall, is being run by Trusham Art Society.

Entry to the show is £5 for adults, £2 for children or £12 for a family; tickets can be purchased for cash on the day from the entrance gates.
