Beautiful melodies for a perfect spring evening are promised at Dartington’s Great Hall this weekend when The Lyric Chamber Orchestra perform at the venue on Sunday evening (May 11).

The South Devon-based orchestra offers a memorable evening listening to marvellous music written by well-loved composers and performed to the highest standard and continues to promote the extraordinarily talented young musicians Felix Rosenboom (cello) and Sebastian Salvaterra (piano).

Their enthusiasm and passion for music have led to some outstanding performances that have simply delighted our audiences.

Felix Rosenboom is a performing cellist currently based in Salzburg, Austria where he studied at the Universität Mozarteum, under the tutelage of Clemens Hagen. Felix fosters a particular love for chamber music and frequently plays and performs with numerous chamber ensembles.

Sebastian Salvaterra was born in Paris in 1990. He started piano at the age of 4. In 2009 he obtained his Piano Diploma with Unanimous Distinction and Gold medal at the Athenaeum Maria Callas Conservatory in Athens. In 2013 he entered the Berlin University of The Arts in the class of Jacques Rouvier. In 2018 he finished his Masters degree in Piano Solo Performance with distinction at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, and in 2021 completed his Postgraduate Piano studies.

The concert will begin with Little Music for Strings, composed by Michael Tippett in 1946. The piece - with its melodic and rhythmic style - powerfully expresses the return from the dark days of the war, to all that is quintessentially English.

Felix will be performing the Haydn C major cello concerto with all its vibrant and virtuosic themes, mixed with the heavenly serene and peaceful slow movement.

Sebastian will end the evening with Chopin’s Piano Concerto no 1 in E minor with it glorious romantic melodic lines, and the wonderful interplay between Chopin's pianistic figurations and garlands of pianistic embellishments.
