ORGANISERS of Teignmouth Air Show have been ‘blown away’ by an outpouring of support which has secured its future this summer.

With 36 hours of the launch of an appeal to find £20,000 to fund the show, donations and sponsorship had come flooding in to meet the shortfall.

The Go Fund Me page attracted more than £10,000 while individual sponsorships, including one of £5,000, have met the rest, essential to make sure the show goes ahead.

On Monday evening, the committee had been facing a huge deficit to be able to commit to the aircraft already lined up for the August event.

It costs in the region of £80,000 to put on the show which includes portable toilets, crowd safety and security.

The show receives no council funding and relies entirely on funds raised by sponsorship and fundraising events.

The Covid pandemic meant all but one of the fundraisers had to be cancelled.

The first show in 2019 was a big success and since then, the restrictions have meant the show could not take place.

The 2019 show attracted an estimated 30,000 visitors to the town.

Since securing the world-famous Red Arrows to appear for the first time this summer, the committee was determined to ensure the show went ahead.

Following the flood of donations and sponsorship, a spokesman said: ‘We were facing the difficult decision to cancel at such a late stage.

‘This is a huge achievement and we are blown away with the support you have all show our committee making the hard work worthwhile.’
