A HOUSE in Newton Abbot was gutted by fire on Sunday, but luckily no-one was hurt.
This week, Teignbridge Council was trying to re-house the family after the blaze destroyed their home in Howards Way, Buckland.
The father was upstairs in the two-floor building and was alerted by the fire alarm, and when he went downstairs he discovered the television was alight.
He attempted to put it out with a wet cloth, but as it quickly spread he had to leave the building and joined his young daughter, who had been playing in the rear garden.
The mother and her son were not in the house at the time, but unfortunately the family's dog perished.
The alarm was raised at around 4.25pm and firefighters from Newton Abbot and Torquay fought the blaze. When they arrived the house was well alight and it was sometime before they had it under control. Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, one jet and two hose-reel jets.
The family were staying with relatives until other accommodation could be found.
