RESIDENTS on a Teignmouth estate could be ordered to pull down their garden fences after a ‘sledgehammer to crack a nut’ decision by Teignbridge Council planners.<

Andrew Webber was refused retrospective permission for a fence at Whitear Close because it is too close to a road.<

But there are several other similar structures in the Moor View Drive area, and the householders could now face a similar crackdown.<

Mr Webber, 32, communications manager at Teignmouth Community School, told the planning committee on Tuesday that the original fence was damaged in a 2014 storm, and he took it down.<

He installed another closer to the road, and all the neighbours were happy with it, apart from one who sent an anonymous letter of complaint to the planners.<
