PROCEEDS from Kingsteignton’s Live G8 music festival were handed to Kingsteignton Athletic Football Club and Prostate Cancer UK on Saturday.

The popular 12-hour festival, featuring ten local bands, including Oddsox and Teignmouth’s The Tides, is becoming an annual August bank holiday event at the Sandygate Inn.

Last weekend, £1,200 of its proceeds was donated to the football club and £800 to Prostate Cancer UK.

Mark Henderson, Live G8’s music coordinator, said: ‘Thanks to all who came along when we presented our cheques to the football club and Prostate Cancer UK.

‘It was great to be able to hand over such a good amount to both charities and we had a great evening of music at the Sandygate from Face to Face to round it off.’

This year was the fourth Live G8 charity festival at the Sandygate Inn.

Secretary Sharon Henderson said: ‘We had lots of visitors on the day. There was live music from some fantastic bands, all of whom gave their time for free.

‘We had face painting for the kids and a tent selling homemade chilli bread and chilli jam. And more fantastic food from Hermanos Paella, who cooked the most amazing paella which added a real festival feel to the day.

‘We feel so grateful to all of our sponsors and supporters for the fantastic amount we are able to donate to such great causes.’

Landlord Barry Cole added: ‘This is Live G8’s fourth year and it seems to be getting more and more popular so, all being well, we’ll do it again next year.’
