MORE than £1,040 was raised at Newton Abbot Hospital League of Friends annual Hospital Saturday. Held in the hospital grounds in East Street, it was opened by the mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr Daphne Watts, with town crier Ken Purchase adding a touch of colour to proceedings. Also having stalls at the event were the RNLI and the Cats Protection League. For the first time the friends' volunteers wore tabards, with a logo, to promote their work. The winner of the guess the weight of the cake competition was Mrs S Terrill. All the money raised will go towards the hospital equipment fund.
