THE battle to save Bovey Tracey’s community hospital might have been lost, but the fight to save the building goes on. That’s the message from Avril Kerswell, chairman of the League of Friends.

At their annual meeting tomorrow, the league will be opening the floor to townspeople to have their say on what they want for the building which has been closed since December 2015.

‘The hospital is gone,’ Avril said. ‘We mustn’t dwell on the past, we must look to the future.’

The Friends are hoping that people will come up with plans to raise funds, give donations or offer building skills to bring the building up to scratch after being closed for so long.

‘Even if it’s just to volunteer to clean the gutters, we want to hear it.’ Avril said.

‘This is an opportunity for Bovey Tracey to say once and for all what they would like to happen to the building. We have until September 10 to present a plan to the Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust explaining how we propose to rescue the hospital building. ‘It has to be a care-based proposal to fit their criteria.’

‘I cannot stress it strongly enough – Tuesday is a once-only opportunity to discuss this important matter. Please come along, for the sake of this valuable community asset.’

The meeting takes place tomorrow at 7pm at the Methodist Church Hall in Le Molay-Littry Way.
