THE War Horse regional premiere organised by the Rotary Club of Ashburton/Buckfastleigh was a success, filling two cinema screens and raising £8,000 for charity.

The screening at the Apollo, Paignton, took place just one day after the UK Royal Premiere in London last Monday.

The audience of 700 showed their appreciation at the end with prolonged applause and by dropping £900 into collecting buckets on top of the discretionary ticket price.

The total of £7,985 will be shared between Help for Heroes, Cinema and

Television Benevolent Fund and Farms for City Children (the Devon-based charity founded by the book's author Michael Morpurgo).
