A TUMBLE-DRYER fire in Newton Abbot has been attended by fire crews from Teignmouth and Bovey Tracey this afternoon.

Fire control received calls reporting smoke coming from a property in Rosemary Avenue, in the Highweek area of Newton Abbot at just before 3pm.

Fire control sent one fire engine from Newton Abbot, one fire engine from Teignmouth and another engine from Bovey Tracey.

A spokesman for Devon a Somerset Fire and Rescue said: ‘Once the crew were in attendance the officer in charge confirmed this to be one tumble-dryer well alight the had set the decking attached to the property on fire along with the gas meter box.

‘The crews are at work extinguishing the blaze with the use of two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one dry powder extinguisher and other tools.

The crews are still dealing with the fire update to follow.
