REPORTS of a fire at a shooting range on the outskirts of Moretonhampstead kept crews busy through the night from 9pm yesterday.

Crews from Bovey Tracey and Chagford arrived to find a ’well developed’ building ablaze.

Following a request for assistance, the two fire crews were joined by engines from Newton Abbot, Okehampton and Ashburton.

Crews battled the fire using water from a swimming pool, supplied to the fire using a light portable pump and two main jets. The fire had also spread to another building containing a biomass boiler and wood pellets.

Due to unknown hazards within the buildings, crews remained a safe distance from the structures and nearby residents were evacuated from their homes.

Fire crews confirmed the blaze had been extinguished at midday today.
