FIVE fire engines from towns in Teignbridge have been battling a fire which ripped through a Chudleigh Knighton pub early today.

Crews from towns including Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Moretonhampstead and Teignmouth, plus help from Torquay appliances, fought to contain the blaze, which broke out around 3am at the village's Anchor Inn.

The building , 30m x 40m, and adjacent cottage has been severely damaged by fire.

Efforts were being made to prevent the fire spreading to attached properties and a barn.

Crews were still damping down hotspots around 5.30am..
