CUSTOMERS were evacuated from a busy Newton Abbot fast food outlet when fire broke out in the kitchen. Firefighters from the town were alerted to Kentucky Fried Chicken in Queen Street when a fryer caught light. Staff noticed flames coming from the fryer and tackled the blaze using a fire extinguisher. Other staff members helped to evacuate customers. A spokesman for Newton Abbot fire station said: ‘This was exactly the right procedures in a commercial premises.’ Crews checked to make sure the fire was fully extinguished and all the power was isolated to the fryer. An electrician was called in to fully check the fryer before it could be used again. The incident happened just before 3pm on Sunday.
