THE Friends of Newton Abbot Library group first fundraising event raised £166.

The library played home to the group’s Christmas Fair.

There was a tombola, bric-a-brac stall and a raffle of a painting of the Passmore Edwards Centre, which was created by group vice-chairman Carole Phillips.

The painting was won by Steve Harris, of Kingsteignton.

The money raised will be used to help support and promote the library’s services and a range of community events that take place in the library.

The group was formed because of the financial pressures facing library services in Devon, so the county council decided to create charitable organisations to run the libraries.
