A PUBLIC exhibition on a new flood defence scheme for Teignmouth will be held next week at the Teignmouth Regeneration Project visitor centre, Northumberland Place.

It will be an opportunity for the public to have their say on a new scheme before it goes back to Environment Agency for a detailed proposal. It comes after the first scheme was withdrawn in the face of mass public disapproval two years ago. Already meetings have been held with interested parties that have been described as productive. Teignmouth Town Council's flood defence working party chairman Cllr Susan Dawe said: 'We have already had some interesting debates about the scheme but so far not one person has said point blank that they do not want a defence scheme'. A plan has been put forward with suggestions for the route of the defence line, 'but this is by no means set in stone,' said Cllr Dawe. 'This has caused much controversy in the past and this is an opportunity for people to have their say. 'We want to hear all ideas, constructive thoughts on the scheme and criticisms. If there is wide support for a flood defence scheme, the Environment Agency will provide a detailed flood defence proposal for the final stage of consultation. The exhibition is being held on Tuesday, 5pm-9pm, Wednesday, 10am-9pm and Thursday, 10am-5pm.
