FLOOD volunteers are needed in Buckfastleigh to be on call to help out in any emergencies.

There’s a meeting at the town hall on March 27, from 5.30pm to 7pm, to discuss and practise how residents can help prevent disasters caused by flood waters.

The Environment Agency and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue will be on hand to demonstrate their kit and show residents how to build a sandbag wall.

A spokesman for the event said: ‘Come along and find out more about what kind of things you could get involved in if there is a risk of flooding.

‘Volunteers are all vital to helping out Buckfastleigh in a flood – in whatever role you choose, whether that’s out and about in the town doing the practical stuff, or in the command centre making phone calls.

‘Please attend the meeting if you are free, even if it’s for only part of the exercise – every bit helps.

‘Please come dressed in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty if you are going to get involved in the practical stuff.’
