J and P Northcott, of West End Terrace, Old Totnes Road, Ashburton, write:
My husband and I have just been to the viewing of the Grand Chuley Plan in Ashburton.
It is, at the moment, a plan for the future in consultation with the local people. There is no detail for now but a lot of planning for it to be done.
There are two details that are more important to this site than anything else, flooding and access for traffic, which we think that at the moment are a long way from the planners' minds.
The flooding speaks for itself, with the main town flood scheme coming into the middle of the site. The access is mostly through the town or into Old totnes Road, which is mainly single car access and has a narrow stone bridge.
The answer would be as suggested many years ago by many other people – access from the A38 slip road into Chuley Road.
If this is not affordable then the whole plan needs working on to make it affordable, with houses, shopping and parking for the whole town.
The traffic at the moment is horrendous, with the expanded business of Tuckers and Rendells over the years, so if they could be relocated it would help the mess that Chuley Road finds itself in today.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
