A Christmas tractor parade across Dartmoor on Sunday night (November 30) has generated over £1,200 for two local emergency rescue charities.
Around 70 vehicles festooned with festive decorative lights travelled a circular route from Ashburton across Dartmoor taking in Hemsworthy, Saddle Tor and Haytor.
The convoy was led by Ashburton Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team who were one of the beneficiaries of the funds raised alongside Devon Air Ambulance.
This was the second charity tractor run organised by the South Devon Hunt and a spokesperson said, ‘it really was a fabulous evening…and it was certainly quite a site going through Ashburton and across the moor’.
The South Devon Hunt is already preparing for next year’s Christmas Tractor Run, which will again take place on the last Sunday of November.
As well as raising £900 from vehicle entry fees and over £300 from collections during the event, the South Devon Hunt expects to generate additional donations from its online fundraising page.
The South Devon Hunt’s first charity tractor run last year raised £700 for Andy’s Man Club. It was held in memory of local farmers Steve Wright and Mike Tewson who died in summer 2024 and was part of the Hunt’s efforts to raise awareness of men’s mental health in the countryside.
Andy’s Man’s Club holds free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom including Newton Abbot, Buckfastleigh, Okehampton and Teignmouth. Meetings are also available online. The charity seeks to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation.
The South Devon Hunt holds several fundraising events throughout the year and last year donated over £3,000 to charities including Devon Air Ambulance, The Farming Community Network, Dartmoor Search and Rescue and The Royal British Legion.
