The Ashburton and District Garden Association spring show on Saturday was described as 'very successful'.

The event was held at the town hall and attended by portreeve William Shapley and bailiff Phillip Darby.

Entries were plentiful in the cut flower and potted plant sections as they were for domestic art.

Chairman Mike Harvey won two trophies, while best in show was taken by Jeanne Distin.

Her winning flower arrangement also gained her the Laura Gray Trophy and the Association Vase for best floral art.

Edwin Lewis won the Helen Mack Bear Award and the Winifred Shute (Gold) Cup for most points in the well supported children's section.

Charlotte Gale won the best exhibit award and the Winifred Shute (Silver) cup.

Mr Harvey thanked exhibitors and said he was 'well pleased' at the number and standard of the entries.

His thanks extended to members of the committee, particularly show secretary Judi Stafford, for their efforts in making the show a success.
