A BLUE Flag for Dawlish Warren was flown in by helicopter on Friday.
The accolade is awarded only to those beaches that pass the very strictest of criteria for environmental management, visitor facilities, cleanliness and clean bathing waters. This prestigious status has been retained for a fifth year in succession.
Cllr Gordon Hook, Teignbridge Council environment spokesman – who flew in with the flag – said: 'We are delighted to be able to fly this European Flag for yet another year.
'It's testament to Teignbridge Council's commitment to caring for the resort all year round in partnership with local traders. The award criteria is very strict and there was a lot of competition this year.
'However, Dawlish Warren has demonstrated its worth once again, reaffirming its recent placing as one of the most popular resort beaches in the country.'
