THE Homeless In Teignbridge Support (HITS) foodbank will be helping Teignmouth based community development charity, Kingsway Residents’ Association (KRA) with their ’Holiday Hunger’ cooking project, by providing food to be cooked at the Kingsway Meadow Centre.
KRA trustee Cate Williams said: ‘Despite government food vouchers for children who have free school meals, ‘Holiday Hunger’ remains a serious issue.
‘It’s great that Sarah and Karen will be preparing cooked meals for the youngsters again this year. We are grateful for the food donations from HITS footbank.’
Holiday Hunger revolves around the rise in demand from families during the summer holiday.
This often leaves people trying to stretch their budgets in order to buy food and in some cases going without proper meals during the holidays.
David Cox, HITS Food Bank chairman of trustees, said: ‘It’s good to help a great charity like KRA.
‘We cannot thank the people of Teignbridge enough for their donations; however we would ask for them to continue their support during the summer to ensure that we can help children at risk of going hungry and help us cope with unprecedented demand.
‘Just one item being donated at the collection points at supermarkets and shops can make a real difference to a youngster who is struggling for food and living in poverty.’
Across Teignbridge HITS foodbank will be help struggling families facing crisis, and struggling to put food on the table this summer.
If you are impacted or know of any family who might struggle during the school holidays please refer them to HITS.
The foodbank will need a referral from school, CAB, Job Centre or other ’official’.
HITS will deliver a foodpack for the six weeks of the holidays.
Please email HITS at [email protected] or phone 01626 906371
HITS also have toiletry packs and cleaning products if needed.
