THE Westcountry Rivers Trust is inviting people to discover more the River Dart and its wildlife at a free event in Ashburton today, October 5.

Members of the charity will explain how they’re working with local farmers to slow the flow of water to reduce flooding and prevent pollution entering the river; about the fish that live in the Dart and how the Trust is supporting them; and how they are monitoring the health of the river and what local people can do to help.

Guests will be invited to join them for a short walk to the river to look at some of the creatures that live there and have a go at using some of the tools to monitor water quality.

Olivia Cresswell, river and fisheries officer for the charity, said: ‘Rising on Dartmoor and flowing through some of the most iconic spots in the West Country, the River Dart is an outstanding environment with some hidden gems. Please come and find out about what we have been doing to improve and celebrate the river as well as what you can do to help.’

The event will take place at the Dartmoor Lodge, Peartree Cross, Ashburton, from 1.30pm to 5pm. To book a free place contact [email protected]
