THE Strand Centre hosted its first farmers’ market last weekend.

After an earlier practice run Strand Centre manager Paul Lentel and his team set out stalls for eight traders who were selling baked goods, preserves and fresh produce.

Paul said: ‘They were all local to the area and the food was all home made and delicious.

‘We had plenty of people in and if they wanted a break from shopping our cafe was open to provide refreshment.

‘We’ll be holding the farmers’ market on the fist Saturday of the month. The next one’s August 5, from 10am to 3pm.’

Paul added: ‘The Strand Centre is a wonderful venue, and we are hoping to double the number of stalls next time. The beauty is there’s plenty of space and being indoors we can hold the markets all year round.’
