DURING the past year, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh Cottage Hospital League of Friends spent more than £11,000 on equipment for the hospital. The LoF annual meeting heard that it included a hydro lift chair, an Arjo hoist and an industrial washing machine. At the meeting, chairman Joan Norwell stood down after four years' service and was thanked for her work. That position is now filled by former vice-chairman Sue Ashworth, with Sonia Bowden taking over the vice-chairman's role. Owing to illness, the guest speaker, Sheila Cudmore, a Macmillan nurse, was unable to attend. She was wished a speedy recovery by the LoF press officer Pam Castle, who thanked members for all their hard work during the year and all those who had given so generously.
