A DAWLISH fish and chip shop is among the top five in Devon and Cornwall shortlisted in the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition. The Model Fish Café, Queen Street, will now receive a visit from a mystery judge who will mark it on the quality of its food, customer service, hygiene and staff training. The area champion will be announced later this month along with 18 other winners from across the UK. A further round of in-depth judging will then take place and the 19 area winners will be whittled down to the top 10 shops in the country. Ainsley Harriott will host the final in London in January. Seafish project manager Andy Green, the organiser of the contest, said: 'With such a high calibre of entrants this year, it will be extremely tough for the judges to make a decision. Quality and service within the fish and chip shop industry continues to rise and it's important that the hard work of the shops is recognised.'
