A CAR transporter leaked 40 litres of oil on to a busy road out of Newton Abbot on Monday.

Highway workers were called to mop up the skid hazard mess in Exeter Road near the Vauxhall dealership just after 1pm.

Police were also alerted to help direct traffic held up by the spill which ran down a hill and around a bend in the road.

A police spokesman said the driver raised the alarm after his vehicle’s main hydraulic pipe developed a leak.
