TEIGNMOUTH resident Shirley Day had her hair shaved off – for a good cause.

She did it to raise money for cancer charities after learning her sister Kathy has leukaemia.

'It is quite liberating in many ways – it feels so light, and I do not have to worry about styles any more,' said Shirley, who works in advertising for the Post's sister papers, the Dawlish Gazette and Teignmouth News.

'I expected people to stare at me, but they haven't; probably because it is more common these days.'
