A FUNERAL service for former Kingsteignton headmistress Margaret Straker is set to take place today.

The well-loved and respected woman, who died last month aged 92, ran St Michael’s Infant School for more than 30 years until she retired in the 80s.

Miss Straker was born in 1926 and grew up in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands before training to become a teacher in Whitelands College, London.

Her first teaching job was in Honiton, which was followed by her move to Kingsteignton, where she worked until retirement.

Miss Straker died peacefully at Penns Mount Residential Home on March 13 following a stroke.

Her funeral is taking place at St Michael’s Church, Kingsteignton, today (April 5) at 1pm.

It’s requested no flowers. Donations may be left to the Labrador Rescue Trust by retiring collection or sent to J & K Davey Funeralcare, Kingsteignton.
