Bovey Tracey and District Macmillan Support volunteers celebrated raising £100,000 in ten years this week.

The group's total was helped along by £18,000 collected through fundraising this year. It presented the money to Macmillan headquarters, Torquay, on Wednesday.

'It is such an achievement to reach the £100,000 mark,' said Kelly Hayman-Bruce, chief fundraiser for Bovey Tracey and District Macmillan Support.

'What is important is that every single penny will be spent in Devon.'

Despite the credit crunch, the volunteering team drummed up support and managed to raise £1,000 more than last year.

'People across the district have been so supportive and so giving,' said Ms Hayman-Bruce.

'One of our big events this year was an auction which raised £2,600.'

Ms Hayman-Bruce is confident that the volunteers can beat this year's total in the future.

'We will do it and have a very busy year ahead. There are plans for a calendar for 2010 and also another auction,' she said.
