DOG charities in Cyprus can expect a large Christmas donation from a Dawlish hair salon.

From November 14 until Christmas, Signature Hair and Beauty will donate 50p to Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus (SPDC) and Cyprus Dog Rescue for every visitor to the salon who gets a treatment.

The charities rescue dogs from municipal pounds as well as strays, saving dogs from maltreatment, euthanasia, and illness. They aim to rehabilitate, care for, and rehome dogs in the UK and Ireland.

Chrissy Marks has owned Signature in Dawlish for 11 years. She discovered the charities in 2021 when she was looking to rescue a dog after one of hers died.

Since adopting from SPDC, and receiving amazing assistance from it in the process, she has supported its cause.

She responds to its appeals regularly and two months ago, helped them with a large water bill they were struggling with. She is passionate about the work they do and their tireless efforts to look after dogs that are “in awful states’.

She works hard to make the charities’ work known and to find homes for as many dogs as possible.

Chrissy is hoping that the money raised can go towards a playground for the dogs that live in the complex and will never be rehomed due to their complex conditions, additional needs, or their age.

Chrissy is a passionate animal lover. She donates to ten different charities each month including PETA, Blue Cross and Dogs Trust. She recently operated as a collection point for items to be donated to the charity and sent over a large collection (more than four suitcases full) of donated leads, collars, coats and flu treatments.

This appeal combines a huge passion of hers with her strong community network to make positive change.

Wotton Printers in Newton Abbot, which Chrissy wishes to publicly thank, have created labels and stickers to promote the cause free of charge.

She said: ‘People can come in and donate even if they don’t want to get a treatment, or if people want to add more to our collection pots after their treatment we can collect as much as possible.’

She also encourages those looking for a dog to consider adopting a rescue and is happy to be contacted with any questions via her email [email protected]
