Residents and visitors to Bakers Park in Newton Abbot are being given the opportunity to get an early look at potential future improvements to the area and give their views on what they'd like from their local park.

The Friends of Bakers Park group, supported by Teignbridge Council, will be presenting the results of a recent questionnaire issued to local people at an informal evening event at The Wolborough Inn, Newton Abbot, on Thursday.

Survey results and the park improvement plan will be on show.

Young people aged under 18 are welcome to come along and give their views, but will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Members of the Friends group will be on hand to give more information and help with queries about the park. They can also help anybody who's interested in finding out more about the group, and can discuss with visitors how they can get involved in sharing their ideas, skills and enthusiasm for the benefit of their local park.

Catherine Field from Friends of Bakers Park said: 'The response we received from the questionnaires has been very heartening, and vital in informing the direction we now take.

'The park is really important to many people. Since our formation just a few months ago several improvements have already been made through our partnerships with Teignbridge District Council, Newton Abbot Town Council and support from local trusts and businesses.'

Cllr Anne Fry, Teignbridge Executive spokesman for recreational services said: 'The Friends of Bakers Park are doing some wonderful work to improve the area and plan for the future, and we're very happy to work alongside them and other 'Friends' groups to help improve Teignbridge's open spaces even further.

'The park improvement plan has been greatly helped along by local people giving their views, and this meeting will be a chance to find out what actions could be taken based on local opinion.'
