TEIGNMOUTH artist and TAAG member COLETTE THOMAS takes a light-hearted look at issues that affect Teignbridge. This week’s cartoon relates to last week’s page seven story about trying to find the worst pothole-stricken roads in Newton Abbot.

Hunt on for roads full of potholes

A HUNT to find some of the worst pothole-stricken roads in Newton Abbot has been launched.

Residents are being encouraged to nominate damaged roads in a bid to get them repaired.

Officers at Devon County Council have pitched in by putting nearly £40,000 aside to tackle the pothole problems.

Both of Newton Abbot’s county councillors are lobbying to get the well-worn streets restored to its former glory.

Cllrs Gordon and Jackie Hook are compiling a list of pothole-peppered roads and sending it to Devon County Council.

Nearly £19,000 has been put forward for repairs in Newton Abbot South and nearly £20,000 in the north ward.

Although it is unlikely all roads will be worked on – because of limited funding – the pair are determined to push.

Repair schemes are being carried out on parts of Haytor Drive. But the full length of road couldn’t be completed because it would have swallowed up all of county’s funds.
